The start of a new year feels a good time to set some goals – “what would I like to achieve in the next 12 months?” At this time of year people also often ask you about your goals and you can feel a bit of pressure to come up with something – being ambitious and goal focused is better than not being ambitious and goal focused right?
I haven’t set any specific goals this year (and haven’t for a few years now).
Instead I commit to observe myself as I do the things I do (including adding in things I think might be useful new experiences) – work, family, social, learning etc… – and see what I notice. What thoughts and emotions are coming up and how effective I was in what I tried to do.
I like this approach because it helps me continually identify little things to work on that often end up making a big difference. It also means my own development becomes an everyday process and it feels good to know I’m always working on something.
For this to work I’ve found…
This process in itself is something to continually work on so I feel I’ve always got more than enough content to keep me moving forward 😊
Very best wishes for 2025.
