Feedback is crucial for parents of sporty kids – you just need to be careful what can happen when you ask!

Here’s a question for you.  Is it a good idea to ask your kids for feedback on your behaviour when you watch them playing sport?  I’m keen to see what regular readers are learning from our ‘parents top tips’ so please do have a think before you read on.  If you’d like to be more effective at supporting the learning of your kids as they play sport, is it a good thing to ask them for feedback on what you do when you watch them?

To help YOU decide if this is a good option, here are 2 more questions for you…

  1. What should kids be focused on during competition?
  2. How could ASKING them for feedback on your behaviour (bearing in mind that kids mostly want to please their parents!) impact on where they focus their attention?

Seeking feedback is crucial in helping you become a more effective parent.  Just as important is understanding who you should (and shouldn’t) ask.
