I’ve been reading about silent retreats. These retreats are usually in the middle of nowhere, last between a few days and a few weeks and have a goal for those attending of using solitude and silence for the type of introspection that leads to a deeper understanding of oneself and the moments of personal insight and clarity that allow personal growth.
While I don’t think a silent retreat is for me, what is for me is the important task of taking the time to build our relationship with ourselves.
And we do this I think by working through some challenging questions…
What is good about my relationship with myself? What could be better? Do I see introspection as an opportunity for growth or a scary and uncomfortable place? Am I kind to myself or too harsh? Would I want to spend time with me?
These are challenging questions (and there are many others) but they’re also very important because this is the person you will be presenting to others as you build relationships.
So while a silent retreat might also not be for you, could you benefit from more moments of solitude and silence to work on your relationship with yourself so you have better relationships with the people you want to spend time with?
